MCS-150

MCS-150 is the FMCSA form motor carriers use to create or update their official USDOT registration details.

What you actually need to know

Your MCS-150 record tells FMCSA your business name, address, cargo type, equipment count, operation type, and mileage. Brokers and enforcement systems can compare those details against what you claim elsewhere.

Carriers must update MCS-150 on the required biennial schedule, and sooner when important business details change. If the record is stale, your USDOT Number can be marked out of date.

Treat it as a public business profile. Keep your address, phone, cargo type, trucks, and operation classification consistent with your authority and insurance.

Common mistakes / confusions

  • MCS-150 is not the same as MC authority.
  • Updating MCS-150 does not automatically update every state filing.
  • Leaving zero mileage or old equipment counts can make a new carrier look careless.
